How I Lost 30 Pounds in 5 Months: Strong Will and Hard Work

It was the first week of January 2012. I hadn’t stepped on a scale in over 4 months. I knew I had put on some pounds, thought I was around 235-240 at most. I step on the scale Sunday Morning and look down to see 255 pounds! To think that 3 years earlier on the day my wife and I were married I had weighed a normal 160 pounds. Depression started to sink in; I wanted to just let go and binge, eat without remorse and not worry about trying to get back into shape anymore. I had been working out for over a month and to see that number was very discouraging. What was I doing wrong?

Flash forward to April 29, 2012. I step on the scale determined; I had been working relentlessly for almost 5 months. I adjusted my eating habits dramatically; I was working out 6 mornings and 3 evenings a week. I look down at the scale and I am shocked once again. It reads 222.60 pounds. A difference of 32.4 pounds over four months. An overwhelming statement that losing weight without diet pills and starving is very possible. It just takes strong will and incredible work ethic. Yes I still have much to lose but my accomplishments are more than evident. So how did I do it? Counting Calories by watching what and how much I eat as well as exercising.

Painted the valve cover on my 1996 Toyota Corolla

I painted the valve cover of my Corolla this week. I bought an extra valve cover from gold94corolla at Toyota Nation and I decided to paint his instead of mine because his still had the name plate which I thought looked neat.

I had originally planned to sand the cover down and polish it until it was as smooth as it came out of the factory and just paint the center black. After 5 hours of sanding by hand I came to the conclusion that I would simply paint it. So I did, next day after class I took it over to my mothers house and painted it. First solid white for priming. Then the blueish green. Then I taped the center and painted the rest black.

The following are four pics of the process. The first is a photo of the valve cover in its original owners 1994 corolla. The second is after about an hour of scrubbing and degreasing. The third is of the valve cover after it was all done, as I forgot to take a picture of the cover after sanding. The fourth is of the valve cover in my 1996 Toyota Corolla. There are some defects because of some mistakes I made, after all it is the first time I have ever spray painted anything. I am proud of my work though. It was probably a total of 10 hours of work and I think it has improved the look and feel of my engine.

I would like to thank everyone one at Toyota Nation for the help including the DIY Painting Valve Cover Corolla 93 – 97 thread.

My Struggle with Ambition

Ambition

Ambition – “an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment”

A Struggle?

Yes you read right, a struggle. That may seem puzzling to some people because ambition is generally a highly praised quality amongst a person. After all many successful icons in this world are credited for their ambition and drive. After all success is “the American Dream” right? But I can assure you that ambition can be a burden and many times it is for me.

A weekend spent at home and well many would welcome some rest, sitting here at home doing nothing drives me crazy! I am not the type of person who can just sit and do nothing. I have to progress I have to get better, I have to improve my life. I spend my days looking for tomorrow instead of appreciating today. As a matter of fact I started this blog to help cope with those times where I just can’t find anything else to do.

Why is that a Problem?

The Future of Denver West High School

West High School

Sad and Disappointing

Denver Public Schools has recommended phasing out West High School. Rather than rant on what I thought brought West to this point or what should have been done differently, I will talk about the many things I enjoyed during my tenure at West.

My New Personal Blog

I have decided to start my own personal blog. It is nothing serious or dramatic, just a way to express my thoughts. Do I want to become famous? No. Do I want to attract a million readers? No, but it wouldn’t hurt.

Who I am?

Raymond Perez. A 2010 Denver West High School Alumni. I am currently attending Red Rocks Community College for my web development certificate. I have a growing interest in cars and I have always had a passion for computers. I currently work for web development company Reality Concepts LLC and I own Motive Web Designs LLC. In high school I was involved with many activities which included Denver Kids Inc., Future Business Leaders of America, and Deca. I have also earned several awards with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America which include a National Award for the Digital Arts Festival and I was named the 2010 Youth of the Year for the William E. Cope Boys and Girls Club. These activities and opportunities have played a huge role in my life and I will mention them from time to time in my entries.

What is to be expected?

Nothing special, I’ll just write what is on my mind. Whether that be current events, my childhood or just some commercial I saw on television. Don’t like what I have to say, do not stress about it, it’s just a thought of mine and you should not get your feelings hurt. As time goes on you will learn that I have a very diverse personality and I am interested in many different topics. I may sound like a jock one day, and an anime nerd the other. Yes, I love the game of basketball as well as my favorite childhood show Digimon. I love football but at the same time I am a hard working web developer.

Please forgive my grammar and style of speech. I do not intend to impress anyone with my writing skills I only desire to express my thoughts because I enjoy writing. I have intended to start a blog of some sort for a while now but I could not set my focus on one idea. So I will write about anything that comes to my mind on a given day.

How often will entries be posted?

Depends on whether I have something to write about. There may be times I write on a daily basis, or I could go a whole month without posting a new article.

So enjoy the ride and remember not to get offended though I am open to discussion.

Just a Thought
